My research interest is in international and regional human rights:- the protection of marginalised communities especially children who are stateless and are not recognised as nationals by the laws of any country. This can be attributed to the fact that these children are born in a migratory context, from parents who are refugees, asylum seekers, undocumented, and are unable to prove their connection to any other country. Statelessness creates a situation where children are exposed to human rights abuses such as child trafficking, enslavement, protracted detentions, etc.
Sweden and South Africa have ratified the Convention of the Rights of Children which entrenches the best interest of the child as central to everything that involves the child. This also means giving a child a voice so that the child can be heard and participate in matters that involve them, not simply as outsiders but active participants in decisions that impact their lives.
I am also interested in postgraduate supervision, particularly as I have recently embarked on the supervision of master students, I look forward to the opportunity to co-supervise and eventually supervise doctoral studies. This makes me also interested in the scholarship of doctoral education, internationalisation, and globalisation of the curriculum and practices within Higher Education. I would like to meet like-minded colleagues who are keen on multi-disciplinary collaborations with a comparative analysis perspective.
